I thought I'd share with y'all the last block I needed to put together the CAL blanket.  If you'll remember, I did all 4 houses each month for a total of 48 blocks.  Well, with it being a Harry Potter blanket & all, I want to keep those magical numbers in the blanket.  So to make the blanket 7 rows of 7 blocks, I need 49 blocks.  So I decided to do a house unity block & try to mimick the borders I wanted to do once the blanket was joined.  This is the block I decided on.

Starburst New Millenium

Here's how I did it.

I used  a US H (5.00 mm)

~Use Starburst Hotpad for base

1~Follow Starburst Hotpad instructions. Make one for each house (4 total)

Gryffindor
Color A ~ Gold
Color B ~ Red

Hufflepuff
Color A ~ Yellow
Color B ~ Black

Ravenclaw
Color A ~ Bronze
Color B ~ Blue

Slytherin
Color A ~ Grey
Color B ~ Green

Assembly
Color A ~ Grey

************************************
Now use to finish the block .

Special Stitch needed
Treble Decrease ~ yo twice, insert into next stitch, yo, insert into next stitch, yo, crochet off 2 loops at a time

Border ~ With grey, begin in first stitch of 2nd treble section, ch 3, * 5 trc in corner, 2 trc, 2 dc, 3 hdc, 1dc, 2trc, treble decrease, 2 trc, 1dc, 3hdc, 2dc, 2trc * repeat from * to * 3 more times, join with sl st in top of beginning trc

Border 2
~sc in gold all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 3
~sc in red all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 4
~sc in yellow all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 5
~sc in black all aroundworking 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 6
~sc in bronze all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 7
~sc in blue all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 8
~sc in grey all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Border 9
~sc in green all around working 1 sc, ch 1, 1sc in corners

Now to just layout the blocks, join them & add borders.  I want to do all 8 house colors with a row of grey in between for the borders but we'll see how i feel once I get to that point.  :)

this really is a great design. i love it as a house unity block, but i can see this working well ion other things. It would look great in greens as a celtic knotwork type block too

That would work well in grey and green too. so it could be a celtic/Slytherin block

No question
...you are the most talented crocheter I have ever met. Wow. That is a beautiful block.

Loved the hand dyed yarn in the other post. A couple of Christmases ago, a friend gave me two cones of space dyed yarn. Also beautiful. In fact, so beautiful, I haven't been able to commit to a project for it.

But yours....wow.

Re: No question
Wow, I don't know what to say to that. That is an amazing compliment. Thank you. :)

I do that too. I have loads of Harry Potter fabric that I've been hoarding & some yarn as well.

It is very simple, just do each section at a time & read through the instructions. And when you do decide to do it, we're here if you need help. :)

:) The hotpad pattern has a link to a video that shows the construction. It helps a lot.
